Chicago Tribune Endorses Matt Murphy
1/11/2010
On Sunday we endorsed businessman Andy McKenna for governor in the Republican primary, and today we back his running mate for lieutenant governor: state Sen. Matt Murphy of Palatine. This is a guy who has made a name for himself in a short time by questioning the status quo. One delicious effort: He has pushed legislation to make it easier for his hometown to secede from Cook County, a protest against the county's job-killing sales tax increase. That high tax is particularly painful in towns like Palatine, which is close to collar counties with lower tax rates. Murphy and McKenna propose genuine ethics reform and smart ways to save Illinois' floundering government.
