Too much is at stake to make the wrong choice. We must make a clean break from the past. We must not allow the Democrats to run to our right on taxes and spending. Further, if our business leaders support a nominee that is cut from the cloth of the big government Republican tradition of the past, we will lose when we should win. We can win and I will.
For the last seven years, Democrats in Springfield and Cook County have taxed and spent our state to the brink of bankruptcy while simultaneously making us the punch line of national jokes for their abuse of power. The people are fed up and ready for a new vision and message. This is no time for pessimism. This is our greatest opportunity in a generation to remake Illinois.
My message is simple: Illinois must turn the page on its past and launch an economic revitalization unlike anything we have seen in our lifetimes. If we set the right goal-to transform Illinois from a bottom 10 performer to a top 10 performer in job creation and economic growth-we will restore pride and prosperity in our great state.
We have momentum that you won't yet read in the papers. We are raising money and adding volunteers every day. We feel the enthusiasm because the Republican base knows I'm the only true free market believer with a proven track record of legislative action who is not tied to the past.
